MA4MS inclusive adaptive practice

Welcome to Martial Arts for Multiple Sclerosis

Welcome to Martial Arts for Multiple Sclerosis—MA4MS.

This project begins with a simple idea: practice should meet the person where they are. Multiple Sclerosis can affect energy, vision, balance, mobility, coordination, sensation, confidence, and daily routines. A meaningful martial arts practice does not have to ignore those realities. It can adapt.

What You Will Find Here

MA4MS brings together adaptive movement, breathing, visualization, confidence, caregiver guidance, instructor guidance, accessibility, and carefully organized resources. The site includes options for standing practice, seated practice, wheelchair-based practice, and bedbound practice.

If MS is new—or still being classified—begin with Start Here. If you already know what kind of practice you want, open the Practice hub. Caregivers and instructors have dedicated guidance within the Resource Library.

Mission Before Performance

MA4MS does not measure a person’s value by how closely they can imitate traditional movement. The question is not, “Can you perform this exactly?” The better question is, “What principle is this teaching, and what version fits today?”

That principle may be breathing, timing, attention, posture, sequencing, awareness, balance, confidence, or the discipline to rest before exhaustion.
